Relentless rain, snow, and a wind that will freeze your feet off. These are just some of the challenges that Rick will face in the 2024 season of Alone Australia. In a twist that nobody saw coming, this year’s show was filmed in the depths of New Zealand’s South Island, a place that gets colder than -9°C.
If you haven’t heard of this series before, Alone Australia is a show where 10 Aussies are isolated in the wilderness. There, they’re tasked with surviving for as long as possible. With no crew and minimal resources, each contestant must forage for food, build shelters, and contend with the psychological toll of being truly alone. The last person standing wins $250,000.
Does Rick have what it takes to endure New Zealand’s South Island under such stressful conditions? Or will Rick be one of the first few to leave this series behind? Here’s everything we know about Alone Australia 2024’s Rick.
Who Is Alone Australia 2024’s Rick?
When it comes to surviving Alone Australia’s 2024 rules, Rick is more than ready. At the age of 17, Rick signed up for the military and went on to become an SAS Officer. As an SAS Officer, Rick spent over eight years learning how to survive snow, mountain, and blizzard warfare.
Since leaving the military, Rick has become a bushcraft educator. He currently runs a bushcraft and survival school where fathers and sons learn skills as a team. Rick has also become famous on TikTok. His account, @rickjpetersen, teaches people all kinds of survivalist hacks. His account currently has over 170,000 followers and over a million likes.
According to Rick, he has the experience and grit to win Alone Australia 2024. In a statement, he said that while he’s 58 years old, he shouldn’t be underestimated.
“I have a goal of doing epic stuff in my life every year,” Rick said. “I may have a few years under my belt, but when it comes to a commitment to keep pushing boundaries, I’m just getting started. This will be the ultimate opportunity to put experience and knowledge to the test!”
