Time for a Beverage: Aldi Has Brought Back Its Popular Colour-Changing Gin

We love an ALDI Special Buy, especially when it comes in the form of colour-changing gin.

From Wednesday April 13, ALDI are giving gin-lovers what they want, by restocking McQueen’s Colour Changing Gin ($49.99), which has become super popular since it first arrived on Aldi Australia shelves back in 2019.

McQueen Gin, created by British husband and wife duo Dale and Vicky McQueen, started with conversations over their own after-work gin and tonics. Their idea? To combine their technical and culinary skills with their true passion – gin!

Fast forward a few years, and McQueen Gin is ready to hit the market in 2015, with four never-seen-before gin flavours: Sweet Citrus, Mocha, Smokey Chilli and Chocolate Mint. Their product was picked up by ALDI, and the rest is basically history.

In the giant gin boom of 2017, they launched McQueen Colour Changing Gin and McQueen Pink Gin in the UK, which were more popular than they could’ve imagined.

Luckily for us, ALDI brought their colour-changing gin to Australian shelves in 2019, where it was as popular here as it had been in the UK. Made using the petals of the butterfly pea flower, McQueen Colour Changing Gin turns from blue to pink when tonic, lemon or lime is added.

“Not only does our new artisan gin taste great, but it also brings a little bit of theatre to gin o’clock,” Dale McQueen, managing director and co-founder of McQueen Gin, told Delicious.

“Add a squeeze of lime first and see what shade of pink the gin goes, then add the tonic and it will change again.”

You will be able to pick up a bottle of your own and impress your friends at your next dinner party, from Wednesday April 13 at an ALDI store near you. However, you’ll have to be quick, as history shows they run out fast!
