If you are craving more of the creepy goodness that is A Quiet Place, director John Krasinski has some great news. The actor and filmmaker confirmed during Paramount Pictures’ annual investor day presentation that a third film in the Quiet Place franchise is currently in development and is scheduled for release in 2025.
So far, it remains fairly vague as to whether Krasinski himself along with actors Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe will be involved, but seems likely they will be given the third movie will serve as a direct sequel to 2021’s box office hit A Quiet Place Part II.
In a 2021 interview with The Latch, Simmonds spoke of the responsibility to up the scare factor when returning for a second outing, saying that she felt A Quiet Place Part II did just that.
“I didn’t think it was possible to make something scarier than the original but I felt that when I saw it,” said Simmonds.
“I knew everything that was happening and I still felt so tense. From the very beginning, it just doesn’t let up.”
It’s not surprising that Paramount is looking for more Quiet Place content, given the roaring success of the first two films.
The first movie in the franchise was released in 2018, grossing more than USD $350 million worldwide and receiving critical acclaim. Krasinski then wrote and directed the follow-up film, which opened in May 2021 and grossed nearly USD $300 million globally, which was especially impressive given the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the movie industry.
Meanwhile, writer-director Michael Sarnoski’s is also working on an A Quiet Place instalment — separate from the threequel — which is set to premiere in September 2023. No cast has been announced for the project but it is said to take place in the post-apocalyptic world in which talking and making sounds of any kind will surely result in death, but is not expected to focus on the Abbott family.
Krasinski is next turning his talents to directing, writing, producing and starring in the film IF which boasts a massive star-studded cast that includes Ryan Reynolds, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Fiona Shaw, Steve Carell, Louis Gossett Jr., Alan Kim and Cailey Fleming. No plot details have been revealed but the film is scheduled to be released on November 17, 2023.
