Due to the popularity of The Witcher (and Henry Cavill), Netflix has announced a limited series is on the way.
The Witcher: Blood Orange will tell the backstory of the elven civilisation before its fall and will also feature the very first witcher.
The series is set to be filmed in the UK and will be a six-part, live-action show.
Being a prequel, we won’t be graced with Cavill’s presence this time around — and no other casting decisions have been made yet.
According to Netflix, the series will be set 1200 years before the world of The Witcher and will tell a story lost to time and the events that lead to the pivotal “conjunction of the spheres,” when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.
Season one showrunner, Declan De Barra is returning for this next instalment, sharing his “excitement” over the news.
“As a lifelong fan of fantasy, I am beyond excited to tell the story The Witcher: Blood Origin,” he said in a statement.
“A question has been burning in my mind ever since I first read The Witcher books: What was the elven world really like before the cataclysmic arrival of the humans? I’ve always been fascinated by the rise and fall of civilizations, how science, discovery, and culture flourish right before that fall.”
The Witcher Season Two
As for The Witcher, it was given the green light for a season two, five weeks before the first series even aired in December 2019.
