As a child in the Philippines, The Amazing Race competitor Jobelle promised herself that she would one day take part in the popular reality television series.
Now, the bubbly mother-of-one and her lovable dad Rani are set to embark on the adventure of a lifetime as they traverse the land down under with their sights set on the $250,000 prize.
Rani — who runs a food truck — his family moved to Australia 13 years ago, looking for a brighter future. The family may be far from their original home but they find ways to honour their heritage every day, with the delicious Filipino street food they serve up, just like Rani’s grandmother used to make.
The pair are known for spontaneously bursting into song and Rani just might have exactly what it takes to remain calm under pressure, having previously worked on a cruise liner.
“There was an oil spill in the engine room, so we tried to contain it and not create a panic in the ship,” said Rani. “It was like the movies: the guests were partying the night away and down a few levels below, in the engine room we were trying to save all of their lives and not let the ship sink.”
As for how Jobelle feels now that her childhood dream is finally coming true? “I still can’t believe this is real,” she said.
