In 2020, Sally Rooney‘s Normal People was a lockdown smash hit. With over 62 million people tuning in to watch, it quickly became the BBC’s most streamed series of 2020.
Now, fans of Normal People can get excited, because Rooney’s second television adaptation, Conversations With Friends, is set to premiere next month.
The limited-edition drama will take us back to Dublin for another coming-of-age story that will examine the intricacies of love, friendship and connection.
The series stars newcomer Alison Oliver as Frances, and, if the success of Normal People is anything to go by, Oliver will find herself a household name in no time.
Here’s everything you need to know about Conversations With Friends, from what it’s about to where you can tune in.
What Is Conversations With Friends About?
In a similar vein to Normal People‘s Marianne and Connell, Conversations With Friends is centred around two Trinity College Dublin students. This time, we meet Frances and her ex-girlfriend, Bobbi, who are in their early 20s.
Frances is smart, quick-witted and keenly observant. Meanwhile, Bobbi is confident and engaging. After breaking up three years ago, the pair remained best friends.
After performing spoken word poetry together in Dublin, they meet an artsy married couple, 30-somethings Nick and Melissa, and the foursome quickly become romantically entangled.
While Melissa and Bobbi are open about their flirtation, Nick and Frances spark up a passionate, secret affair, which ends up pushing the bond between Frances and Bobbi to its limits.
