The Undoing is already shaping up to be the next best thriller on television and it’s no wonder — it’s from the team that created Big Little Lies.
The story centres around Grace Fraser (Nicole Kidman), a psychologist whose world falls apart when her husband, Jonathan (Hugh Grant), is linked to the death of Elena Alves (Matilda De Angelis), a fellow parent at Reardon, their children’s fictional private school in Manhattan.
The series is loosely based on Jean Hanff Korelitz’s 2014 novel, You Should Have Known, and is set in New York City with swanky penthouses and pre-war brownstones. And if you’ve ever been privy to the delights of the streets of New York, the show is sure to make you feel some serious wanderlust for the city.
One of the main locations for the show is Reardon, a fictional and elite private school in which the Fraser’s send their son, Henry (Noah Jupe).
According to Variety, it is the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia situated on the corner of Park Avenue and East 93rd Street and is an “amalgamation of properties that dates back to 1918”.
The property started out as a standalone residence which was commissioned by a wealthy banker, Francis F Palmer, in 1916. It is a Georgian Federal-style dwelling and was designed by Manhattan’s Delano & Aldrich architecture firm.
According to The Dirt, the building boasts five stories, with a brick and Tuscan marble exterior, a mansard roof and multiple fireplaces, and is one of the city’s “most extensive early Twentieth Century townhouses,” per the Landmarks Preservation Commission.
In 1926, the house was sold to George F Baker, who hired the architects to make additions including “a garage annex with servants’ quarters, a large wing with a ballroom and formal dining room, and an adjoining townhouse for his father to live in”.
In the second episode, Grace flees to her beach house to escape the scrutiny and reporters following her husband’s disappearance.
According to Hooked on Houses, the dwelling is a vacation rental known as The Tower at Rocky Point in Greenpoint on Long Island, NYC, and has already featured on HBO’s Girls.
Situated at 280 Rosenburg Rd./5795 Rocky Point Rd. in East Marion (to be exact) the home is used as a family house by its owners throughout the year.
Currently listed on Airbnb and VRBO, the description depicts a “huge kitchen and dining room” with two sinks, two ovens, a six-burner stove and a huge amount of workspace.
There is also a large table which seats 14, (“perfect for the ultimate dinner party”) and has six bedrooms, plus four bathrooms.
