What We Know About the Location of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here Australia

I'm a Celeb

I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here has well and truly kicked off, and although we’re only a few episodes in, we can already predict how wild the latest season will be.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the South African jungle is out and the celebs will instead be heading into the Aussie bush to forgo their creature comforts. Which, if you’ve seen our creatures, sounds anything but.

Here’s what we know about the filming location of the popular reality competition.

Down Under in Dungay

Continuing on from last year, the famous personalities will head into the Aussie bush at a site near Murwillumbah in NSW.

Side note, here’s a totally unrelated but super fun fact about Murwillumbah: in 1978 it was the location of Australia’s largest ever bank robbery when a staggering 1.7 million dollars was stolen from the vault of the Bank of New South Wales. And, true crime enthusiasts, the case remains unsolved. Just saying.

Anyway, I digress from Dungay.

Located in the Tweed Shire in far north-eastern NSW, Dungay is about an 8-minute drive from the town, a rural area 13km south of the QLD border.

Nearby is the rather ominously named Mount Warning and the celebs might want to sneak their wellies on set as the area is prone to substantial rainfall thanks to its volcanic origins. Delightful.

What is the Set Like?

Dungay has been used as the site for the OG I’m A Celebrity, with the British version having used the area since 2003.

In aerial images acquired by The Daily Mail, the conditions are pretty rugged and the set includes a dirty swimming pool which will likely be used for challenges as well as some very bare-bones structures along with production cabins and trailers.

Who is Competing?

From former MasterChef Australia contestant Poh Ling Yeow to beauty queen Maria Thattil, there are a number of familiar faces entering the so-called jungle this year. But that’s not all, in a first for the franchise, an ordinary man from Gold Coast simply called “The David” will also be competing while trying to convince those around him that he’s just as famous as them.

I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here Australia airs at 7.30pm on Channel 10 and 10play.
