DC fanatics, listen up: Y: The Last Man will soon be streaming on BINGE and we know you won’t want to miss it.
Based on DC Comics’ acclaimed series of the same name by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, the brand-new sci-fi drama series Y: The Last Man will debut on the streamer with a triple episode premiere and then drop new episodes each week.
Y: The Last Man is set in a post-apocalyptic world in which every mammal with a Y chromosome – meaning all males – have been decimated except for one man named Yorick Brown (Ben Schnetzer) and his pet monkey, Ampersand. The series follows the survivors in this new world as they struggle with their efforts to restore what was lost and the opportunity to build something better.
The impressive ensemble cast features Diane Lane (House of Cards, Under the Tuscan Sun) as Congresswoman Jennifer Brown, Ashley Romans (Shameless) as Agent 355, Ben Schnetzer (The Book Thief, The Giant) as Yorick Brown, Olivia Thirlby (Juno, Dredd) as Hero Brown, Amber Tamblyn (Two and a Half Men, The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants) as Kimberly Cunningham, Marin Ireland (Homeland, The Umbrella Academy) as Nora Brady, Diana Bang (The Interview, Resident Alien) as Dr Allison Mann, Elliot Fletcher (Runaways, Disclosure) as Sam Jordan, and Juliana Canfield (Succession, The Assistant) as Beth Deville.
The original comic book series was in print from 2002 through 2008, winning the National Comics Award for Best New Comic in 2003. The graphic novel series was also the recipient of a prestigious Eisner Award for Best Continuing Series in 2008.
As Gizmodo Australia points out, “there are a few snares with this premise, such as what about transgender people? The comics didn’t deal with this scenario but it is expected the TV show will be more inclusive and explore the diversity of gender and how it is impacted in this world.”
Said showrunner Eliza Clark, “It includes nonbinary people and includes intersex people. But that’s also true of the survivors. I think every single person who is working on the show — from the writers to the directors to the cast and the crew — are making a show that affirms that trans women are women, trans men are men, nonbinary people are nonbinary, and that is part of the sort of richness of the world we get to play with.”
Y: The Last Man will premiere on BINGE on September 14, with three episodes dropping at once and then one episode released each week thereafter. Check out the trailer below.
