A pet’s name is a word you’ll be saying (and, no doubt, writing in Instagram captions) again and again, so you’ll want to choose a name that not only suits them but that you also like.
Much like baby names, though, pet names can go in and out of style. And the pet names that are most highly searched for at any given time are often a reflection of what’s happening in the world around us, in pop culture and current events. As such, if you’re looking for a trendy pet name, most-searched-for name lists can be a good source of inspiration.
Fortunately, Hill’s Pet Nutrition Australia has done the research and compiled them, revealing their list of top dog and cat names for this year.
“This year, 44% (11 out of 25) of the top 25 trending dog names were male, followed by traditional female names at 36% (9 out of 25),” reads the report. “The remaining 20% consisted of terms inspired by our favourite food and drink choices (5 out of 25).”
As for top cat names, 44% (11 out of 25) of the top trending cat names are in reference to films and TV shows, followed by music (20%) and Disney-specific (16%). The rest were traditional male names (8%), as well as female, food and classic-themed names.
So, without further ado, the top 20 names for dogs and cats are…
