Ty Dolla $ign has recruited some huge music heavyweights for the release of his new single Ego Death.
The electro-hop track features Kanye West, FKA Twigs and Skrillex, and tells the story of lost love.
Accompanying the single with a statement, he said that the song was a “very special record” and that it was “an honour working with my brother ‘Ye.”
“He’s a genius and we make incredible records every single time we link up. Skrillex and Twigs came in and blessed us with the magic that only they can put on the record.
“I played it once at a house party and everyone went crazy. A clip leaked online and shit but that’s all good. I just had to find the right time to put it out, so I’m excited that it’s finally THAT TIME!”
Dolla $ign also revealed that his new album “is done and it’s coming very soon”.
“Shout to my fans for being patient while I made sure it was perfect, it’s worth the wait…it’s my best work yet. I can’t wait for y’all to hear it!”
West, fresh off releasing his own single on July 1, Wash Us in Blood, lends his voice to the song by taking aim at the Grammys, the Super Bowl and “halfway movements” which seems to address the difficulty black musicians face.
The track was originally premiered during Dolla $ign’s set at last year’s Coachella Festival and is due to release his third album very soon.
In an interview with Spin last year, Dolla $ign said that West had a huge influence on his upcoming album.
“I had a meeting one time with Kanye and played him the album,” the 35-year-old said.
“He was like, ‘Bro, nah. You need to do what you do. Add more bass, add more drums, add more … the real sh*t, that’s what no one else is doing.’ That conversation definitely inspired me and made me go back and go crazy with the live instruments.”
