There’s enough to worry about when going on a first date — Will we have anything in common? What if they’re friends with my ex? Are they a low-key Trump supporter? — but whether or not the person is who they say they are does not have to be a question you trouble yourself with anymore, at least with people you’ve met on Tinder.
The dating platform has today announced a new ‘photo verification’ feature, that ensures the person you’ve connected with is really who they are in their photos, and not someone with a motive to catfish.
Photo verification allows members to self-authenticate their profiles with a series of real-time posed selfies, which using human-assisted AI technology, are then compared to the existing photos on your profile.
Once a profile has been photo verified, a blue checkmark will appear on the profile so people who swipe right on you can be sure you are the stunning, charismatic person you appear in your profile.
“Every day, millions of our members trust us to introduce them to new people, and we’re dedicated to building innovative safety features powered by best-in-class technology that meet the needs of today’s daters,” Rory Kozoll, head of trust and safety product at Tinder said in press release.
“I’m proud to share this update to our Australian members, which represents an important step in driving our commitment to trust and safety work forward.”
To photo verify your Tinder profile, follow the steps below.
1. Open Tinder and tap the profile icon
2. Tap the grey checkmark by your name and age
3. Select ‘Verify your profile’
4. You’ll be shown a pose before you’re asked to copy that pose by taking a selfie
5. Confirm that your selfie matches the pose and hit ‘Submit for review’
6. Repeat steps 4 & 5 one more time with new poses
Once that’s all done, you can swipe on the app worry-free! Although you probably still won’t know if your date is a Trump supporter until it comes out over a drink…
