The Australian television industry has certainly changed pace in the last decade.
Gone are the days of the only a handful of decent shows to watch. Now, we have access to more than ever, with the addition of gritty dramas and fun comedies on local streaming services like ABC iView and Stan.
Original offerings including Bloom, The Gloaming, The Commons and The Other Guy, were all hugely successful in 2019, proving that Australians crave good local television.
In fact, we’ve always supported our own cast of exceptional actors, directors and producers, which rival that of any talent around the world.
And now, with the phenomenon that is streaming, this homegrown talent is finally being utilised in the best way possible.
But what about our networks?
It’s no secret that Australian TV watching habits have changed — and that is why our networks are also jumping on board and offering some seriously good television.
Enter: Network Ten’s The Secret She Keeps, a gripping domestic noir about motherhood and envy.
Premiering on April 22 at 8.45pm, the series, based on the best-selling book of the same name by Australian author Michael Robotham, is a six-part psychological thriller.
Led by Jessica de Gouw (The Crown) as Meghan, a picture “perfect” mother with a successful husband Jack (Michael Dorman from Patriot) and Laura Carmichael (Downton Abbey) as Agatha, a shelf-stacker at the local grocery store — it’s a tale of two women who have one thing in common — they’re both pregnant and due only days apart.
The series also stars exceptional actor Ryan Corr (The Commons) as Jack’s longtime friend Simon, and newcomer Michael Sheasby (Hacksaw Ridge) as Agatha’s estranged partner in the Australian Navy, Hayden.
And if you’re still unsure (just wait until you watch the trailer), the broadcast rights have already been snapped up by both the British and American markets, BBC and Sundance Now.
The Secrets She Keeps is a Lingo Pictures production for Network 10 with major production investment from Screen Australia in association with Network 10.
The Secret She Keeps. Starts Wednesday 22 April at 8.45 pm on Network Ten.
