Mark your calendars for July 23, 2021, because the nicest guy in sport is coming back for another shot at victory.
Ted Lasso, arguably one of the most feel-good television series of recent years, will debut its second season on Apple TV+ and all of your favourite characters will be back for more fun and football.
Starring former Saturday Night Live star Jason Sudeikis, Ted Lasso follows the story of an eternally upbeat American football coach who accepts a position as the gaffer for a team in England that are having a rough season.
Lasso at first encounters scepticism and even downright hostility as he starts his new life, but slowly starts to win everyone over with his kindness, humour and, of course, his shortbread biscuits.
Those homemade biccies don’t seem to work a treat for everyone though as Lasso can be seen offering them to new cast member Sarah Niles, who plays AF Richmond’s new sports psychologist Sharon.
“I don’t eat sugar,” she says when offered a shortbread.
“Really? I’ve never met anyone who doesn’t eat sugar,” Lasso quips. “I’ve only heard about them and they all live in this godless place called Santa Monica.”
In another part of the trailer, Lasso gives one of his trademark heartwarming speeches, telling the media at a press conference.
“I don’t care what our record is, It’s all about believing that everything’s gonna work out in the end, exactly as it’s supposed to. Isn’t the idea of ‘never give up’ one of those things we always talk about in sports? Shouldn’t that apply to people, too?”
Ted Lasso has been a huge success since it debuted, with Sudeikis winning the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series; the Golden Globe for Best Comedy Actor; and Best Actor at the Critics Choice Awards for his performance.
The series itself has received the Critics Choice Award for Best Comedy Series as well as the Writers Guild Awards for Best New Series and Best Comedy Series.
Ted Lasso also stars Hannah Waddingham, Jeremy Swift, Brendan Hunt, Kola Bokinni, Brett Goldstein, Toheeb Jimoh, Stephen Manas, Cristo Fernández, Phil Dunster, Nick Mohammed and Juno Temple.
