Taylor Swift has given us a new glimpse of what it’s like to be in the room with her when she’s writing one of her hits, sharing a behind the scenes look at the making of “Christmas Tree Farm”.
The video shows that the song was written in two days (not quite as fast as Mariah Carey penning “All I Want For Christmas Is You” in just 15 minutes, but still admirable!), with Taylor opening the video saying: “So the idea that I have for the song is Christmas tree farm, ‘coz I grew up on one, do you see what I mean?”
Noting that the song uses chords that she doesn’t usually use, Taylor asked us to bear with her, despite the song sounding great from the get go, even before the lyrics are done.
Song producer Jimmy Napes joins Taylor on day two of the songwriting process, and the two discuss which “luxurious” and “expensive” sounding chords they can add into the festive tune, before heading straight into the studio to record.
The whole thing comes together super quickly after that, with the team pulling in a choir to give the song an extra-festive feel, and bam! Another Christmas song is released into the world. We simply have to stan.
