One of the best things about summer is the promise of live music enjoyed outdoors and, after months of lockdown, it’s likely we are all just dreaming of a day spent soaking up the sun and listening to some great tunes with mates.

Happily, SummerSalt is making a comeback in 2022, with Tasmania and Western Australia set to be the first states to enjoy the fun.

Missy Higgins, Xavier Rudd, Birds of Tokyo, Pete Murray and The Waifs will play both the shows in Tassie and WA, with The Dreggs and Tulliah joining for the event at the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens in Hobart and Coterie and Banjo Lucia added to the lineup at Esplanade Park in Fremantle.

Since its inception, SummerSalt has continued to deliver the finest Australian artists in some of the most scenic locations around the country.

According to the organisers, these festival events will be a great day out with live music in a vibrant setting. It’s the perfect place to bask in the sun while kicking back or dancing the day and night away to some of Australia’s best live music.

It will be homegrown Australian talent performing live music in superb locations and family friend environments, local market stalls, lush lawns, food trucks, and a selection of refreshing beverages, making it perfect for a day in the sunshine.

Promoter John Zaccaria said “after powering through a tumultuous time for events, we are so excited to bring another great round of shows to Tasmania & Western Australia”.

“We’re all keen to get back to enjoying fun days out with friends and some of Australia’s best live music. We have another top line-up of homegrown Aussie talent to bring to Hobart & Fremantle and can’t wait to see music fans out again making sensational summer memories with their mates.”

Headliner Missy Higgins is a nine-time ARIA Award-winner who has brought us albums such as The Sound of White, On a Clear Night, The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle, Oz and Solastalgia. She began 2020 by releasing the single ‘Carry You’ written by Tim Minchin for his TV show Upright and capped off the year with the release of ‘When The Machine Starts’ —  a song focusing on the positives that we could take away from the year’s lockdown experiences.

Perth group Birds of Tokyo are one of Australia’s most popular contemporary rock bands and have found commercial success with singles such as ‘Plans’, ‘Lanterns’, ‘This Fire’, ‘Anchor’ and ‘I’d Go With You Anywhere’. The band has performed at major Aussie festivals like Falls, Splendour In The Grass and Groovin’ The Moo, and had more than 70 of their songs featured on Triple J, making them one of the station’s three most played artists of this millennium.

Meanwhile, Pete Murray has released 7 albums over an impressive career and is one of only a few Australian artists with over 1 million album sales under his belt. He has received 17 ARIA nominations and seen three of his albums reach #1 on the Australian music charts.

Fresh off a stint on SAS Australia, Murray is back with brand new music ‘Hold Me Steady’.
