This post contains spoilers for Spider-Man: No Way Home, so turn away now if you don’t want to know what happens in the film.
This week, the latest instalment of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man trilogy hit cinemas and to say it’s one of the biggest releases of the year is an understatement. According to a report by Variety, the release will easily top the box office results for 2021, and it’s thought that the debut weekend could exceed $150 million USD.
It’s not uncommon for Marvel movies to top the box office lists (they’ve been knocking one another off the top spot for years), but this will be the first cinematic release to top the $100 million USD figure in a single weekend since the beginning of the pandemic.
So, with a release bigger than we’ve seen in years, a hero in Spider-Man who transcends generations, and an all-star cast with Holland and Zendaya starring opposite one another right at the centre, it’s hardly surprising that you’d have questions.
I’ll say it one last time: this post has spoilers and has been written to simply answer some of the top questions you may have walked away with. I won’t be diving into the plot exactly, but if you want your top answers questioned, sit down and keep on reading.
When Does Spider-Man: No Way Home Come Out?
The wait for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) latest addition is finally over, with the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home hitting cinemas globally, on Thursday 16 December, 2021.
Is Spider-Man: No Way Home on Disney Plus?
The entire back catalogue of movies in the MCU (which this movie is a part of) have a home on Disney+ and can be streamed right now, alongside the latest series’ like Loki, WandaVision, and Hawkeye. So, we can only assume that once Spide-Man: No Way Home will join the other Spider-Man movies on the streaming service, too.
Are Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in Spider-Man: No Way Home?
This is officially your last chance to avoid spoilers. What’s interesting about the character of Spider-Man is that, unlike other films in the MCU, like Thor or Iron Man, he’s owned by Sony Pictures. That’s why the animated film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a Sony Pictures movie, not a Marvel/Disney film.
Because of this, there’s been plenty of speculation on whether previous iterations of Spider-Man (aka, those played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield) would appear in the MCU, though that was answered in this film when both reprised their roles, thanks to the freshly-opened multiverse.
So, to answer your question, yes. Both Maguire and Garfield joined Holland in Spider-Man: No Way Home to form the glorious Spider-Man trifecta we were all hoping for. I’m still struggling to hold my emotions at bay about this one, but will say that their arrivals have blown the future of the Spider-Man movie franchise way, way open.
Was Spider-Man: No Way Home Tom Holland’s Last Spider-Man Movie?
The question on everyone’s lips is whether Tom Holland has any more Spider-Man films left in him. Given Maguire and Garfield’s arrival in the MCU, we’re all also wondering whether that means Holland will have his turn playing Spider-Man in a Sony film that’s separate to Disney’s MCU? Sony Pictures CEO Tom Rothman alluded to that being a possibility during an interview with ComicBook.com, but didn’t say much more than confirm Sony and Marvel have a “great working relationship”. In November, Spider-Man: No Way Home producer, Amy Pascale, revealed that Holland will suit up for three more films, though no deals have been formalised at this time.
In an interview with GQ in November, he said, “If I’m playing Spider-Man after I’m 30, I’ve done something wrong,” though the fact that he’s currently only 25 could fill us with some hope. When speaking with People following the release of the film in December, he also revealed that he wants “to take a break and focus on starting a family and figuring out what I want to do outside of this world.”
In short, nobody knows whether this will be Holland’s last hurrah as Spider-Man.
How Many Post-Credit Scenes Were There In Spider-Man: No Way Home?
Marvel movies are known for their post-credit scenes, but it’s never confirmed ahead of time whether there’ll be a mid- and post-credit scene, or just one. This time ’round, there was a mid-credit scene featuring Tom Hardy in character as Eddie Brock and Venom — picking up exactly where the latest Venom movie left off.
When Eddie and Venom were transported across the multiverse in the post-credit scene during the recently-released film, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, there was speculation that his character would appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home, in yet another Sony Pictures/MCU crossover, but this appears to have been a misdirection, perhaps to get us all talking about Maguire and Garfield returning.
Technically speaking, there was also a post-credit scene that set the scene for the next Doctor Strange film, though, in a departure from MCU’s usual style, it was much more like a trailer than a traditional post-credit scene. In it, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange seeks out Scarlet Witch (played by Elizabeth Olsen) to help him right the universe and, yes, thank you, we are ready for more.
Where Can I Find the Spider-Man: No Way Home Soundtrack?
If it’s the movie’s score that you’re looking for, then the American composer who is responsible for the epic soundtrack, Michael Giacchino, has conveniently posted the entire album on Spotify. Though, since this is purely instrumental and doesn’t include any of the other bangers included in the movie, it may not be exactly what you’re looking for. There are plenty of fan-made playlists popping up on the music streamer with hits from the film, like Talking Heads’ I Zimbra and Odyssey’s Native New Yorker, though no verified tracklist has been released just yet.
