While the world spent a good portion of the year in quarantine, creative minds in Hollywood got together — through their computers — and created an entire anthology series.
Aptly titled Social Distance, the series which will be released on October 15 on Netflix, tells eight distinctive stories of characters as they navigate the “new normal” of a COVID-19 world.
Created by Orange Is the New Black’s, Jenji Kohan, the series is set in the initial months of the global coronavirus pandemic.
The official synopsis explains it as an”eight-part anthology series that showcases the power of the human spirit in the face of uncertainty and isolation.
“Each standalone episode is told through a virtual lens and captures the unique emotional experience of being forced apart by circumstance and having no choice but to communicate remotely and rely on technology to maintain any sense of connection.
“Through these varied and deeply human stories, Social Distance aims to provide some much-needed catharsis during a tumultuous time while also capturing a snapshot of this singular moment in history.”
The team behind the show is Orange Is the New Black and Bones writer Hilary Weisman Graham and executive-produced by Glow EP Tara Herrmann.
Social Distance also has an all-star cast full of Netflix actors that you’ll recognise from, well, everything. OITNB star Danielle Brooks stars in one episode as a single working mum, Guillermo Diaz (United We Fall), Oscar Nuñez (Mr Iglesias), and Daphne Rubin Vega (Katy Keene), play a Latinx family reconnecting over what looks like a Zoom funeral and Max Jenkins (Dead to Me) and Brian Jordan Alvarez (Will & Grace) play a couple who have stopped having sex. It’s all very relatable.
Social Distance premieres on Netflix in Australia on October 15.
