You may well have seen the commercials for Scenes from a Marriage airing on Foxtel and wondered what it’s all about.
The five-part drama series recently made its debut at the Venice Film Festival to rancorous praise and is likely to become one of the year’s most talked-about (and potentially rewarded) series.

What’s It About?
Scenes from a Marriage is adapted from a 1973 Swedish television series of the same name, created by Ingmar Bergman, and explores the complexities of marriage along with love, hatred, desire, monogamy, marriage and divorce.
The story centres on Mira, a confident, ambitious tech executive left unfulfilled in her marriage, and Jonathan — a cerebral and accommodating philosophy professor desperate to keep their relationship intact.
Throughout, Scenes from a Marriage mines the full complexity of Jonathan and Mira as individuals who ultimately know their marriage isn’t being torn apart by any one event or flaw, resulting in a radically honest series that allows the audience to eavesdrop on private conversations between two people torn between feelings of hate and love.
Who Stars In It?
Jessica Chastain plays Mira while Oscar Isaac plays Jonathan.
Sunita Mani, Nicole Beharie, Corey Stoll and Tovah Feldshuh round out the cast.
Where Have I Seen the Actors Before?
You’ve seen Oscar-nominee Jessica Chastain in films such as The Help, Zero Dark Thirty, Interstellar, The Martian and Molly’s Game, while Oscar Isaac has starred in Ex Machina, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and A Most Violent Year — in which he appeared opposite Chastain.
As for Corey Stoll, his credits include Midnight in Paris, Billions, House of Cards and Ant-Man, while Nicole Beharie has been seen in Miss Juneteenth, Shame and Sleepy Hollow.
Meanwhile, you might recognise Sunita Mani from her performance in Netflix’s GLOW and Tovah Feldshuh from The Walking Dead.
