A young Mahalia Murphy had her heart set on a career in Olympic track and field, but soon found herself moving into rugby league and Sevens. She discovered her love for the sport after her family moved into Sydney’s western suburbs, and over a decade later, Mahalia debuted for the St. George Illawarra Dragons club in the NRLW.

Before heading to the desert to film SAS Australia, Mahlia secured a trade over to the NRLW Parramatta Eels earlier this year, and even locked down the Coaches’ Award for 2023.

Where Is Mahalia Murphy from?

Mahalia’s family is originally from Walgett in northern NSW, but later moved to the Blacktown-Doonside area of Western Sydney. SBS reports that she is a proud Kamilaroi woman who started playing rugby league in Penrith before getting selected to play for NSW Women’s side.
