Rooney Mara will step into the shoes and little black dress, of Audrey Hepburn in a new biopic from Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino.
The project has been greenlit by Apple, which also recently announced they have a documentary about the late Sidney Poitier in the world from executive producer Oprah Winfrey.
Plot details for the biopic have not been revealed but there are certainly more than enough of Hepburn’s achievements to mine — the actress starred in films such as Breakfast at Tiffany’s, My Fair Lady, Funny Face, Sabrina and Roman Holiday and was nominated for the Academy Award for best actress five times, winning in 1953 for Roman Holiday.
Beyond her film roles, she was a revered style icon and remains so to this day. She was also a dedicated philanthropist who took a step back from her career in order to focus on her humanitarian projects such as those with UNICEF. She died in Switzerland in 1993 at the age of 63.
For her part, Mara also boasts an impressive resume, having been nominated twice for an Academy Award — for Best Actress in 2012’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Best Supporting Actress for 2016’s Carol.
She can next be seen in Guillermo del Toro’s Nightmare Alley alongside Bradley Cooper and Carol co-star Cate Blanchett.
While Mara certainly has the acting chops, and the resemblance, to play the iconic Hepburn, some expressed their disappointment that the role did not go to Emily in Paris star, Lily Collins, instead.
“Lily Collins was born to play Audrey Hepburn and yes she does have the range. I said what I said,” one user wrote on Twitter.

Well, you can’t please everybody but we, personally, look forward to seeing Mara take on the role of one of the most well-known and fascinating women of the last century.
No release date has been set for the project as yet.
