Qantas Makes a Surprising Pivot with a Cool Fashion Line

With majority of its flights grounded, Qantas has been getting creative in the ways it makes revenue outside of the air. First, the national carrier began selling its coveted business class pyjamas and amenity kits in a bid to boost lockdown morale.

Next, the airline started selling off an overflow of fully-stocked galley carts that were stocked with drinks and amenities, from champagne and Australian wine to Tim Tams, pyjamas and an exclusive-to-Qantas first-class Sheridan throw.

The airline then pivoted again to launch the sold-out ‘Great Southern Land’ scenic flight across Australia, which flew Sydney passengers over the Great Barrier Reef and Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park in a six-hour journey.

Now, Qantas has done it again, this time with a chic new leisure collection, designed in collaboration with Australian fashion designer, Martin Grant.

The limited-edition athleisure range showcases a mix of the airline’s vintage logos to celebrate the flying kangaroo’s centenary year. With cashmere sweaters, a hoodie, jumpers, T-shirts and a beach tote, the collection makes for a versatile way to honour the national carrier as its evolved over the years.

While Qantas’ red is the brand’s most iconic colour today, the collection throws back to past iterations of the airline’s branding, with navy pops and mustard moments.

“This collection is all about classic shapes, comfortable styles and materials that are kind on the environment. But the hero of the designs are the iconic logos that evoke so many fond memories for Australians,” says Martin Grant.

“The Qantas brand is embedded in the history of our country. I wanted this collection to be a nod to the past but also be a treasured piece for the future.”

The range is able to be purchased online with cash, though members can also use their Qantas points if they prefer. Be aware though, some of the garments, while high-quality, cost more than a cheap flight.

A T-shirt starts at $150 (or 26,080 Qantas Points), the jumper will you set back $250 (or 43,470 Qantas Points), and the cashmere sweater is the priciest in the range at $425 (or 73,910 Qantas Points).

The Qantas fashion range is available now at the Qantas Rewards Store.
