It’s raining remakes! We’ve already heard that Three Men and a Baby, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Scarface and Twister are getting a reboot, so why not throw in another one.
The 1987 comedy, Plane, Trains and Automobiles, is set to get a 2020 makeover starring Will Smith and Kevin Hart.
The remake will be a modern update of the original and will see Smith and Hart team up as two mismatched businessmen trying to get home to their families, only to be faced with a variety of travel disasters.
Brooklyn 99 writer, Ayesha Carr is set to write the screenplay, while Smith and Hart will star and produce. Carr most recently executive produced Woke for Hulu, starring Lamorne Morris (New Girl) and Sasheer Zamata (The Last O.G) which will air in the US in September.
Smith, whose most recent film foray was in Bad Boys for Life, is also currently busy producing Bel-Air — a dramatisation of his 90s series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Hart most recently starred in Jumanji: The Next Level and will be in the upcoming April 2021 film, Fatherhood.
There is no other casting news or release date set at this stage.
The 80s version of Planes, Trains and Automobiles starred comedian Steve Martin as Neal Page, a highly-strung marketing executive who meets Del Griffith (played by the late John Candy), a goodhearted but annoying shower curtain ring salesman. The pair share a three-day odyssey of misadventures trying to get Neal home to Chicago in time for Thanksgiving with his family.
The film also starred Laila Robins, Michael McKean, Kevin Bacon, Dylan Baker, Richard Herd and Matthew Lawrence.
