Everything You Need to Know About ‘Only Murders in the Building’ Season Three

Grab your detective hats: our favourite true crime podcasters will be back for season three of the hit mystery comedy series, Only Murders In the Building.

With the new trailer teasing Meryl Streep’s character and *those* photos of Selena Gomez in a wedding dress everywhere, consider us officially desperate to know more about the mysterious murder Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez), Charles-Haden Savage (Steve Martin), and Oliver Putnam (Martin Short) will be investigating in season three.

Here’s everything we know so far about Only Murders in the Building season three.

What Is Only Murders In the Building Season Three About?

Following the season two finale where — spoiler alert— Paul Rudd’s fictional actor Ben Glenroy was unceremoniously killed off on stage, his death is set to be the central mystery of season three.

John Hoffman, the series co-creator, told Variety: “After making an auspicious entrance into the world of our show at the end of Season Two as Ben Glenroy, [Paul Rudd] is someone we clearly want to know more about and see in our upcoming season three — as he is a clear source of many upcoming questions and, as ever with our show, many twists yet to come!”

Hoffman also confirmed the third season will focus on Oliver, telling The Hollywood Reporter: “If season one was a little more focused on the emotional storyline for Mabel and Tim Kono, and season two was a little more emotionally connected to Charles and his relationship with his father and himself, I’m very excited to both lean into the theatrical side of New York City and also into Oliver and his world.”

The co-creator also promised an “insane”, “so exciting” and “very twisty” season ahead, telling TV Line: There’s a lot going on, and certainly, the victim is colourfully drawn so far.”

And it looks like he’ll absolutely deliver on that promise. This week, Selena Gomez was photographed wearing a full wedding gown on the streets of New York City, accompanied by Martin and Short both wearing tuxedos. In another set of photos, the frazzled-looking trio are seen hailing a cab presumably to Mabel’s wedding.

The photos have sparked a torrent of wild speculation: Who is Mabel marrying? Is she marrying one of her exes? Is she really getting married or is the wedding an elaborate ruse to catch a killer? Whatever happens, we know we’re in for a wild ride.

Who Is In Only Murders in the Building Season Three?

Our favourite trio of amateur sleuths — Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short — will of course be back for the third season to solve the next big mystery at the Arconia.

With a raft of celebrity cameos in the first two seasons, including Tina Fey, Cara Delevingne, Sting, and Amy Schumer, to name just a few, there has been a couple of exciting announcements about season three

Jesse Williams will be joining the cast as a documentarian who takes an interest in the murder case.

In January 2023, Gomez posted a behind-the-scenes video on Instagram of the cast on set, revealing that Hollywood royalty Meryl Streep is set to star in the new season. From the trailer, it seems Streep’s mysterious and quirky character is an actress from the same play as Paul Rudd’s character.

The following month, Ashley Park (yep, Mindy from Emily in Paris) shared a TikTok video with Gomez and Short, captioning the video “Murders?? IN THIS BUILDING????” She is reportedly playing a Broadway star named Kimber.

And, yes, Paul Rudd has been confirmed to be returning to season three, as the trio look into solving the mystery of his character’s death.

When Does Only Murders In the Building Season Three Premiere?

Unfortunately, an official release date has not yet been announced but given the trailer dropped on March 12, dare we hope that season three is not too far away.

One thing in our favour is the rather quick turnround between seasons one and two. The first season wrapped up in October 2021 and the second season premiered in June 2022 and ran until August.

So fingers crossed, we’ll be seeing our fave amateur detective in the upcoming months.
