With Nine Perfect Strangers based on a novel by Australian author (Liane Moriarty) and filmed in Australia (Byron Bay), it makes sense that much of the cast’s wardrobe is Australian, too. Case in point: Nicole Kidman’s swimsuit in the waterfall scene is from an Australian swimwear brand UNE PIECE.
Interestingly, the team behind the Brisbane-based label apparently had no idea Kidman would be wearing the piece in the hit Amazon series, thereby landing them money-can’t-buy international exposure.
“To say we are thrilled is an understatement,” says founder Carly Brown. “For an icon such as Nicole Kidman to wear our UNE PIECE Original Sexie Rashie in such a hotly anticipated series such as Nine Perfect Strangers defies belief — it truly is the stuff that dreams are made of.”
Called the World’s Sexiest Rashie, the UNE PIECE Original Sexie Rashie ($199) is pretty special. In addition to being fully lined and designed to contour to a woman’s shape, it’s also made with 28 individual pieces, instead of the usual six pieces rash vests are made from. It’s also ethically made using sustainable UPF50+ fabric to block 98% of harmful UV rays and is ultra-chlorine, piling and sunscreen resistant.
It’s no wonder the piece had a 500-person waitlist before the brand’s website went live just over four years ago. Once the site launched, the brand’s entire range sold out within a week.
Founder Brown says she started UNE PIECE with a clear vision to empower women to feel confident and beautiful by the water — an ethos that’s exemplified in Kidman’s scene.
“Nicole is a vision in her white UNE PIECE,” Brown says. “She took my breath away when I saw her dive from the top of the waterfall wearing it.”
