Will Ferrell Actually Sings In ‘Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga’

Eurovision

Just like the real Eurovision, Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdam’s new Netflix flick, Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga is a colourful spectacle detailing an Icelandic duo’s dreams of Eurovision stardom.

McAdams and Ferrell give hilarious performances as Sigrit Ericksdottir and Lars Erickssong of Iceland as they are given the opportunity to represent their country at the world’s biggest televised song competition.

In our opinion, it’s taken way too long for such a film to be released — but before you think it makes a full-on mockery of the contest which has been delighting fans for 20 years, you’d be wrong. Sort of.

Of course, the characters are outrageous, the costumes glittery and the songs, well, a little hectic, but the heart and soul of the world’s most famous competition are loud and clear. It’s a parody if you will. But also, a little too familiar.

Eurovision has launched the careers of mega superstars including ABBA, Celine Dion and most recently Conchita Wurst — with Australia even getting into the mix in the last few years (Go Montaigne!).

Throughout the film, the united front of the contest and it’s ab fab campness is thrown around like glitter — and you just can’t help but love it.

Dan Stevens (Beauty and the Beast) and Pierce Brosnan (Mama Mia) also star with stand-out performances and all we can say is: get a load of silver fox, Brosnan’s beard.

Ferrell served as executive producer on the flick, and with lyrics in the song like: “Jaja ding dong (Ding dong)/ My love for you is growing wide and long/ Jaja ding dong (Ding dong)/ I swell and burst when I see what we’ve become,” you can tell he had a very big hand in it.

The Anchorman star has had a love affair with Eurovision since the 90s, when his Swedish wife Viveca Paulin, made him sit through one at his in-law’s. And it shows.

Excitingly, he also lends his voice to all of the songs on the soundtrack, however, McAdams’s tracks were laid-down by Molly Sanden aka My Marianne.

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga is a must-watch if you’re looking for a laugh-out-loud comedy, some glittery goodness and a heck-of-a lot of fun.
