This year Mother’s Day falls on Sunday, May 8, and after the last two years we’ve had, you’re no doubt wanting to make the day special.
Fortunately, if that’s what you’re after and you’re in Sydney, we’ve done the research for you, and found some of the best places around town for you to dine on Mother’s Day. Ahead are our favourites.
Tequila Daisy, Barangaroo
Head down to Barangaroo’s harbourside Mexican eatery, Tequila Daisy, for a colourful, flavour-packed Mother’s Day. Take your pick from the a la carte menu (minimum spend $85pp), or make life even easier with the $79 Fiesta Menu. Bookings are essential.
Lotus, Double Bay
Lotus venues across town — in Barangaroo, Walsh Bay and Double Bay — have banquet menus on for Mother’s Day on Sunday. The menu at Lotus Double Bay ($78pp, minimum four people) features steamed lobster dumpling, tea-smoked duck breast with mandarin pancakes and slow-cooked beef short ribs with a tasty house barbecue sauce.
Alibi, Woolloomooloo
The restaurant inside the Ovolo Hotel in Woolloomooloo is known for its photo-worthy, plant-based high tea, so why not use Mother’s Day as an excuse to try it? Starting at $55pp (or more if you add on free-flowing sparkling rose or Perrier-Jouet Grand Brut), you and the mum in your life can enjoy both sweet and savoury delicacies that will make any meat eaters completely forget they’re eating only what’s come from the ground. The tea runs from 12-4pm.
Lobby Lounge at Hyatt Regency, Darling Harbour
Hyatt Recency’s regular G&Tea, which takes place Fridays and Saturdays, will be taking place on the Sunday, May 8 especially for Mother’s Day. For $85pp and $55pp (4-12 years), you and your mum will be treated to innovative scones (think white chocolate with strawberry-eucalyptus jam), sandwiches and hot and cold canapes, like prawn twisties, burrata and marinated beef, as well as photo-ready gin cocktails.
Altitude at the Shangri-La, The Rocks
For lunch with a side of Sydney skyline views, book into Altitude on level 36 of the Shangri-La Hotel. Taking place 12-2pm on the day, and priced at $199pp or $299pp with a guaranteed window seat, the lunch includes share-style meals the likes of cashew ricotta, roast snapper, chicken roulade and breast and chilli-roasted dutch carrot. Sommelier wine pairing is available for an extra $85pp.
AALIA, Martin Place
Another restaurant holding a special Mother’s Day lunch in the city is AALIA, located in Martin Place. There, your family can tuck into a Mother’s Day feast for $145pp of Middle Eastern dish favourites like hand stretched haloumi, lamb neck shawarma and, for dessert, madjool dates with caramelised chocolate.
Woodcut at Crown Sydney, Barangaroo
Beautiful ingredients, simply cooked is the ethos of Woodcut. The restaurant at Crown Sydney has a special Mother’s Day a la carte menu on the day, with Almas caviar — the rarest caviar of all — salt-baked celeriac and clay pot-baked spiced lamb shoulder on offer. Help Mum make a day of it by getting her a treatment at Crown Spa post-lunch.
Sailmaker Restaurant at Hyatt Regency, Darling Harbour
If the mum in your life is a fan of seafood, take her to Sailmaker’s Signature Seafood Table Mother’s Day Lunch at Hyatt Regency in Darling Harbour. There, for $110pp for adults and $69pp for kids 6yrs – 17yrs, you’ll be able to help yourself to a seafood bar filled with the finest produce from Sydney Seafood Market. You’ll also get salads, sides and antipasto, as well as shared-style seasonal mains and indulgent desserts.
