Spice and Zingers — Savindri Joins ‘MasterChef Australia’ to Make Sri Lanka Proud

In 2024, Savindri is on MasterChef Australia

MasterChef Australia can be a life-changing experience. In 2010, Adam Liaw won this series, became a celebrity chef, and began building a portfolio of work that’s still enjoyed today. Even some runners-up have gone on to have incredible careers. In 2009, Poh Ling Yeow came second on MasterChef Australia, and she’s now a judge on this show. Each and every MasterChef Australia contestant knows what’s at stake, and this includes 2024’s Savindri.

Before MasterChef Australia 2024 kicks off, let’s unpack what we know about Savindri and the feasts they cook. Do they have the skills to become our next favourite chef?

Who Is MasterChef Australia’s Savindri?

MasterChef Australia’s Savindri is a Sri Lankan cook who always brings the spice to the kitchen. In this season, she wants to make her community proud.

“I want the judges to enjoy my food,” Savindri said. “And I also want the Sri Lankan aunties to go, ‘Oh yeah, she’s doing good’.”

Yet some of Savindri’s Sri Lankan dishes may not be to every judge’s liking. In a trailer for the upcoming season, we see Savindri serve them a curry for breakfast — a dish that’s so spicy it makes Andy Allen cough.

When Savindri isn’t plating up spicy dishes, she’s delivering zingers that are sure to keep us entertained through the season. In a scene describing her boyfriend, she calls him “a block of white chocolate.”

The Cooking Traditions Savindri Follows

When cooking at home, Savindri has a few cooking traditions she tries to abide by.

“I’ve gotten into the habit of cleaning as I go, not just for food safety standards, but also to avoid my sink being a cluttered mess of dishes,” Savindri said in a 2022 interview. “I also need to have either Spotify or a previously watched show going on in the background to keep me company.”

MasterChef Australia 2024 will premiere at 7.30pm on Monday, April 22, only on 10 and 10 Play on Demand. Miss this episode? Catch up on 10 Play.
