Growing up on a picturesque dairy farm on New South Wales’ mid-north coast, Billie McKay has fond memories of her childhood. Being one of five siblings, McKay would help out with family chores and making dinner, which is where her love for cooking first started.Â
Her level-headed composure in the kitchen is what led to a career in the hospitality industry and inevitably, go on to win MasterChef Australia.Â
It was her now-husband Haydn who encouraged the cook to apply for the competition back in 2015, and no one could have predicted how her life would play out after she took home the coveted trophy.
Following the finale, McKay moved to London to work at Heston Blumenthal’s three-Michelin star restaurant, The Fat Duck. After returning home, she chose to pursue her love of cheesemaking on the family dairy farm with her mother Alison.Â
McKay has always focused on food that makes people feel good and after winning the competition once before, she’s back to see if she can do it again.Â
Currently boasting over 82,000 followers on Instagram, McKay is well-loved and has appeared on previous seasons of MasterChef Australia as a guest judge.Â
But she’s back to being on the other side of the kitchen bench this time around, and we can’t wait to see what she plates up next.
MasterChef Australia: Fans & Favourites premieres on Monday, April 18 on Channel 10 and 10play.
