This season of MasterChef Australia comes with a twist for its hopeful home cooks: they’re up against the Favourites, 12 former MasterChef Australia contestants. They’ve been through it all before, and in cases like Julie Goodwin, Sashi Cheliah and Billie McKay, they’ve even won the whole competition before.
Still, nothing will dissuade Victorian artist Ali Stoner from taking her shot at the MasterChef Australia win.
Stoner prides herself on being a perfectionist, and, in her 10 Play profile, says she “intends to give nothing less than 150%.” She says her attention to detail will make her one to watch during the iconic pressure tests.
In fact, Stoner gets a seasonal box of organic veggies delivered to her home each week, which she feels is good preparation for the season’s mystery box challenges. As the proud owner of more than 200 cookbooks, we’re sure she’ll have more than a trick or two up her sleeve!
In a Q&A with The Latch, Stoner told us a little about herself, saying: “I am an artist and work with fired glass and also paint. When I’m not doing that, I am addicted to F45 and love playing golf.”
When it came to the MasterChef kitchen, Stoner said that she was pleased to discover how “kind and approachable” the judges — Andy Allen, Melissa Leong and Jock Zonfrillo — really were.
“Instead of making you nervous they have quite a calming effect,” she said.
Originally from Scotland, Stoner moved to London at the age of 18, where she spent the next two decades working in graphic design. In 2011, she moved to Australia with her husband and two daughters, Maggie and Evie, and hasn’t looked back since.
Will Stoner be able to beat out all the Favourites and win MasterChef Australia: Fans and Favourites? Only time will tell. Until then…
MasterChef Australia airs at 7.30pm Sunday-Thursdays, only on 10 and 10 Play on Demand.
