Here we go again! The Masked Singer Australia is back, with a (nearly) brand new panel of judges, and some iconic new characters for us to go full-detective mode on.

The first characters that Network 10 announced for the upcoming season were Mirrorball, Zombie and Thong, and they’re coming to us straight from the incredible imagination of Oscar, BAFTA and AFI-winning costume designer Tim Chappel. Let’s get into it.

First up, there’s Mirrorball, a futuristic, glitzy and kitschy costume that features — you guessed it — a mirrorball for the head.

Next up is Zombie, who’s very much giving us Squid Game vibes with her pastel colour palette and glittery eyes. Let’s hope it ends better for her than the majority of Squid Game contestants!

Finally, we have Thong, who’s surely hoping to avoid any blowouts on the big stage!

Then, Network 10 released a batch of promo shots for some of the other competing characters, including a Snapdragon, a Rooster and Popcorn. Check them out:

This year, the only panel judge from past seasons who will be returning to The Masked Singer Australia is Dave “Hughesy” Hughes, who has been on the show since its inception in 2019.

After the recent departure of past judges Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, Urzila Carlson and Dannii Minogue, 10 recently announced the new celebrity judges who will be filling the judges’ seats in 2022.

They are *drumroll please* Chrissie Swan, Abbie Chatfield, and the one and only Mel B.

In a press statement, Mel B shared her excitement to be joining the Masked Singer Australia panel, saying: “Hello Australia. I have missed you so much but I am back and I can’t wait to get the party started with Hughesy, Abbie and Chrissie.”

She continued: “Let me tell you though, I am the best-ever game player and I have something up my sleeve that none of these guys have … I’ve hidden behind these masks as a competitor not once but twice.

“So I’m bringing all my secret inside knowledge to this. But more to the point, I’m bringing the fun. Fasten your seatbelts, everyone, it’s going to be a rollercoaster ride.”

Meanwhile, podcaster and reality star Chatfield said that she was “thrilled to be joining the panel!”

“I’m the first to say I can be competitive and I’m so ready to put my pop culture knowledge to the test and guess who is under the mask,” she added. “Bring on the clues!”

While there’s no confirmed premiere date for The Masked Singer Australia just yet, we’re sure it’s not too far away yet, with MasterChef Australia: Fans and Favourites set to conclude on July 12th.
