Spoiler alert!
It’s official: the highly anticipated trailer for Marvel’s Black Widow has been released and it’s just as good as you were hoping.
Fans first learned about a standalone film for the mysterious heroine, played by Scarlett Johansson, during a panel at Comic Con in mid 2019 and finally a release “date” has been set.
On May 1 2020, the Black Widow a.k.a Natasha Romanoff, will be hitting screens, and we will be introduced to her backstory.
As fans of the Marvel Cinema Universe (MCU) will know, the Black Widow met her untimely demise in Avengers: Endgame when she sacrificed herself in exchange for the Soul Stone.
During an interview on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Johansson revealed that yes, her character was actually dead.
“There are very few certain things but definitely, death is pretty certain,” she told the host.
“But, people definitely don’t believe it and have tried to convince me that my character did not actually die.
“That may be, my character existed in an alternate universe. But no, death is a pretty final thing.”
The new installment focuses on the time period between Captain America: Civil War (which is when we saw Natasha Romanoff go on the run, after helping Captain America) and Avengers: Infinity War and follows her as she returns home to Russia.
Also making it an incredibly important film, Black Widow is directed by Cate Shortland (Lore), and is the first MCU fixture to be directed solely by a woman.
Starring alongside Johansson is David Harbour (Stranger Things) as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova/Black Widow, O-T Fagbenle (Handmaid’s Tale) as Rick Mason and Rachel Weisz (The Favourite) as Melina/Black Widow.
