Whatever you’ve amassed during those months of isolation — be it a collection of useless cables, 12 too many (dead) indoor plants, or 40 matching tracksuits you no longer want to wear — it’s time to let it all go.
Marie Kondo is the creator of the KonMari Method, which, as outlined best in her best-selling book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organising, involves sorting out items according to practicality and whether or not they ‘spark joy’.
Pieces that don’t make the cut are then thanked (vocally) for their efforts and swiftly donated. It’s a wholesome practice that blew up globally in 2019, particularly after the January release of her Netflix show Tidying Up.
Now, Kondo is ready to work her magic methods on our homes once more, this time with a 10-part online course called Fundamentals of Tidying.
The course promises to teach viewers how to “defeat clutter and discover what sparks joy”. Guided by Kondo herself, the resource allows people all around the world to tidy at their own tempo, learning everything from the basics of KonMari to sorting ‘Komono’ or miscellaneous items and dealing with sentimental objects.
“The goal of tidying is to make room for meaningful objects, people and experiences. I can think of no greater happiness in life than being surrounded only by the things I love,” Kondo says.
Students in the course will also receive a KonMari Method workbook to help them on their tidying journeys, plus will be able to shop the products featured in the video with Kondo’s online store.
You can learn more about the course and sign up to take part for US $39.99 (AU $56.71) via the KonMari website.
