Luke Hemsworth is known for two things.
First, for his role as Ashley Stubbs on Westworld (streaming on Foxtel Now) and second, being the eldest of the three Hemsworth brothers (Liam and Chris).
But, according to a new interview with News.com.au, the 38-year-old came exceptionally close to being known for another iconic role. Han Solo.
According to the actor, Hemsworth auditioned to play the role in the 2018 Disney film, Solo: A Star Wars Story to only be pipped at the post by an unknown American actor, Alden Ehrenreich.
“I’ve definitely auditioned for Solo, Han Solo. I really wanted that,” he told the outlet. “That one really hurt more than others because I wanted it so much.
While it “stung” to not get the part, the Crypto actor said it was important to develop “a thick skin” because “more often than not you’re getting turned down.”
Giving more insight into the audition, the father-of-four said it was a “hard” process, mostly because you “never get feedback” and that it’s a blow to your confidence.
“You’re pretending, you’re just trying to get through a performance that doesn’t look like you’re sh*tting yourself,” he added.
“Everyone is just sitting there waiting for you to do something cool. You quickly have to develop a thick skin otherwise you fall apart.”
Hemsworth, his wife Samantha and their four children have just relocated from Los Angeles to set up home near brother Chris, wife Elsa Pataky and three children in Byron Bay.
“We moved late December so the kids could start school here in January. They are loving it — we are all loving it. It’s good to be back,” he told the Sydney Morning Herald.
“The quality of life back home is unparalleled. You just don’t get that over there.
“LA still holds a dear place in my life – and particularly Malibu, which is where we lived. It will always be a big part of our family, and it’s where [the kids] grew up most of their life. But I think we definitely made the right move – I love being close to my parents, and being able to walk down to the beach every day is pretty rad.”
