Croatia has just announced that it’s expanding its digital nomad program, inviting travellers from outside the European Union to come and stay and work for up to a year on a residence permit. Tourist visas to Croatia usually expire within 30-90 days, and it can be tricky to renew them.
Given the change that has been brought on by a global pandemic, hugely affecting our lifestyles and allowing us to work, study and live remotely, quite a few countries have updated their tourist visas to “digital nomad” visas, which allow for longer stays and easier extensions.
In Croatia, you’re invited to apply for a temporary stay, as long as you’re employed by a non-Croatian company, with your close family members invited to join too. Obviously, you’ll need to meet specific visa requirements like having a passport and proof of health insurance, as well as having a minimum of $4,700 in your bank account for the whole 12 months.
And with that, you’re free to live out your European summer fantasy on board a yacht, island hopping along the stunning coastline of Croatia. Divine.
Not that we need to convince you, but there are more than 1,000 islands along Croatia’s eastern coast that bring so many amazing and unique things to see and experience. Historic museums, beautiful architecture, fortresses, gorgeous beaches, swimmable waterfalls, inland biking, hiking, rock climbing and zip-lining are just a few of the activities you can busy yourself with (when you’re not pretending to work).
Given the current restrictions in Australia right now (the international travel ban could stand in the way), this amazing opportunity doesn’t come at the best of times, but it certainly gives us something to look forward to, as this is not simply a one time offer.
For now, travellers need to receive a negative COVID test 48 hours before travelling, but guidelines and requirements are subject to change at any time due to the pandemic.
It’s not the first live, work and stay package available to digital nomads. A luxurious five-star hotel in Bangkok is offering a year-long stay that’s more affordable than your Sydney rental, while a Maldives island resort is offering 12 months in an overwater bungalow.
