LEGO proves it’s just appealing to big kids with its latest release: a series of pop-art inspired wall sets designed for pop culture-loving creatives with a little time on their hands and a boring wall to make infinitely better.
The Danish company’s new Art Sets were released today with four inspired designs to help art-obsessed adults get into the right ‘frame’ of mind while DIY-ing their own displays.
The Beatles displays allow you to bring home your favourite band member, be it John Lennon, Sir Paul McCartney, George Harrison or Sir Ringo Starr. Choose one or collect the whole set to reunite on your walls indefinitely.
Marvel Studios’ Iron Man is sure to be a favourite among superhero fanatics. There are three individual sets within this family that can be combined to create the ultimate Iron Man artwork.
Pop-art lovers will rush in to grab Andy Warhol’s 1967 piece featuring Marilyn Munroe. Recreate the piece in its original bright pink or reimagine it in three different colours to create a gridded mural — it’s entirely up to you.
Finally, bring a galaxy far, far away a little closer with Star Wars‘ The Sith. The three-in-one portrait set can be configured to display Darth Vader, Darth Maul, or Kylo Ren, and when combined, create the ultimate villain of Darth Vader.
All four sets come with a curated soundtrack themed to each display that provide intriguing anecdotes, fun facts and soundtracks. The Marvel set, for example, has an accompanying backtrack that includes interviews with former Marvel editor in chief, Roy Thomas, and stories from Marvel expert and host of Comic Book Historians podcast, Alex Grand.
Each set also comes complete with hanging elements to help you easily display your masterpiece once it’s one.
It’s a welcome new launch from the toy company that hopes to offer adults a way to relax and recharge after a stressful few months of isolation.
“We know adults are always trying to destress after a day at work, and we thought, what better way to help them switch off than by encouraging them to explore their favourite passion in a new creative way?” says Louise Elizabeth Bontoft, senior design director at LEGO Group.
“With these wider-ranging designs, we believe that we can inspire film fans, music lovers and art and design aficionados to immerse themselves in a world of art and creativity linked to their idols. Through this new experience, we believe adults can unwind, engage in a mindful building activity and ultimately create a beautiful piece of wall art that perfectly reflects their personality.”
All artworks measure 40cm x 40cm when completed and have an RRP of $199.99. The Marvel set is available exclusively from LEGO stores and LEGO.com from August 1, while the remaining four sets can be picked up from department stores, speciality stores and online outlets.
