Kirra, a Gold Coast hidden gem suburb between Burleigh and Byron, will get an influx of new visitors this November. This is thanks to a new precinct opening with a residential tower, hotel apartment accommodation, and two destination venues.
“We want locals to come here, people from all over the Gold Coast and Australia, and all become invested in the Kirra ethos and rhythm,” says Jeremy Holmes, development director at KTQ Group, the business responsible for bringing the vision for Kirra Point to life.
A five-minute drive from Gold Coast airport, Kirra Point Precinct will house 116-apartment building Miles and hotel apartment accommodations in Kirra Point Stays. Also in the precinct will be revitalised Kirra Beach Hotel and atop it, Kirra Beach House, both directly opposite the beach.
Housed in a community landmark since 1956, Kirra Beach Hotel will be a quintessential Aussie pub open seven days a week. It’ll be a place where anyone is welcome. Publican and licensee Greg ‘Hodgy’ Hodge says the aim is to create an atmosphere like a second home with guests and staff on a first-name basis and where you can pop in post-surf and perch up at the bar for beer.
“The pub has been here for seventy-odd years,” says Hodge. “The local community already knows and loves it, and the core values haven’t changed.”
Open on Wednesday, November 8, the pub will include a sun-drenched beer garden, a family-friendly bistro, a sports bar with multiple large-screen TVs, and a boutique bottle shop stocked with local drops, including from Burleigh Brewing and Brookies Gin. Five-metre ceilings and wide-open windows will allow in the salty breeze.
Those coming straight from the beach will be welcomed, with Hodgy saying the pub will even keep a tub of thongs behind the bar for those who come in barefoot. The menu will showcase local produce in pub favourites, lighter bites, and share plates.
“Kirra and the Kirra Beach Hotel have always been very community-driven, and we will keep that going, supporting local groups like the Surf Lifesaving Club and various charity fundraisers,” says Hodgy. “The pub should and will always remain a hub.”
Kirra Beach House will sit above the hotel with a mix of indoor and outdoor spaces, wine and cocktail bars, and event spaces for parties, weddings and galas. Open mid-November, the beach house will also feature a terrace overlooking Kirra Beach and the city skyline of Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise.
Executive chef Sebbie Kenyon is behind the menu, whipping up classic and inventive snacks, raw and cooked seafood platters, and flatbreads, and pizzas cooked in the venue’s woodfired clay oven. Steaks and burgers will also feature, alongside a coastal-inspired wine and cocktail list.
“It will have a beach club atmosphere about it, with great music, mesmerising panoramic views of Kirra, Mediterranean-style food using the incredible local produce we have on our doorstep, a world-class drinks list, and of course, great service,” says Dave Galvin, the hospitality entrepreneur from SITE Hospitality who will be operating the venue.
Down the track, the precinct will also include a fresh food marketplace, village square, florist, bakery, boutique retailers, and artisans and a fitness, wellness, and recovery facility.
