Kid Cudi is already an accomplished rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, and actor and now he is going to add screenwriter and director to his list of credentials.
Cudi, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, will make his feature film directorial debut with a Netflix film called Teddy, which he will also star in and co-write the script for. The project will be a comedy and has been in the works for almost ten years and is inspired by Cudi’s hit track ‘The Pursuit of Happiness’.
“If I could sum up what the movie is about in one sentence, I’d say this: It’s as if I took the song ‘Pursuit of Happiness’ and wrote a movie about it,” the musician wrote on Instagram. “I added a lot of my own personal struggles and experiences in it, so this film is very close to my heart. I know, that deep down, this movie will help people in the same ways my music has.”
While this will be Cudi’s first time behind the camera, he’s far from a stranger to being in front of it. His acting credits include X, Bill & Ted Face the Music, and Netflix’s, Don’t Look Up, among several other projects.
Cudi was also the subject of the 2021 documentary A Man Named Scott, which examined the rapper’s rise to fame and his battle with personal demons and addiction.
The rapper also shared how excited he is for his fans to meet Teddy and explained, “Now this is a comedy, but it wouldn’t be me if I didn’t sprinkle some real shit in there. It’s trippy, it’s fun, it’s sad, it’s life.”
The film is being produced by Shawn “Jay Z” Carter, James Lassiter, and Jeymes Samuel, who directed The Harder They Fall.
