4 Questions We Need Answered in the Final Season of ‘Jack Ryan’

John Krasinski as Jack Ryan

Well, it’s been a long time coming, but we’re finally about to see the end of John Krasinski’s adventures as Jack Ryan. Come June 30 on Prime Video, the fourth and final season of Jack Ryan will be ready for us to dive into. Since 2018, we’ve seen our favourite CIA analyst yanked from the comfort of his desk to being thrust into political warfare all around the world. From Venezuela to Paris to stopping an actual third world war, the first three seasons had Jack Ryan basically doing it all. But, with one season left, you know this on-screen story is going to come to an explosive end.

But what awaits Jack Ryan in this final season? What new foes and old friends will rear their heads? And how will he be sent off? Here are some burning questions we have for Jack Ryan’s final season ahead of its premiere on June 30.

Cathy’s Back, But Can She Be Trusted?

We haven’t seen Ryan’s primary love interest, Cathy Mueller, since the show’s first season, but we know that Abbie Cornish will be reprising the role for the show’s send-off. In season two, Ryan was quickly taken with Harriet Baumann, played by Noomi Rapace before discovering her ex-relationship with Max Schenkel. Of course, last season Ryan had literally zero time for any sort of romance lest he get caught on the run through Europe and risk a world war breaking out.

But, we already know Dr. Mueller will be returning this season — we just don’t know what capacity. There’s every chance that the two will rekindle their love and live happily ever after, but Jack Ryan is hardly ever that lucky. Could the return of Cathy be an attempt by a higher power to take him down once and for all, and could she be in on it?

Who is Dolmingo ‘Ding’ Chavez?

Famously, Prime Video’s Jack Ryan pulls the name and spirit of the character invented by Tom Clancy in his novels, but is by no means bound by the plot of the books. That being said, when certain plot points or characters pop up in the series that originated in the novels, it’s hard not to get excited. And that’s exactly what has happened with the arrival of Dolmingo ‘Ding’ Chavez in season four.

Michael Peña is taking on the role of Ding, but we can’t trust his role will be that of what we already know in the greater Jack Ryan lore. In the novels, Ding is a dropout from LA who, after joining a street gang, enlists in the military. Rising through the ranks, he’s recruited by the CIA as part of the organisation’s Special Activates Division.

But how will his role impact the story of Jack Ryan? Will Jack have a new ally, or yet another person he’ll have to watch his back around?

At the end of last season, Jack Ryan was awarded with a medal of honour for his work. Well deserved, frankly. We already know he kicks off the final season as the new CIA Acting Deputy Director.

In his new role, Ryan is in charge of unearthing internal corruption. Naturally, his investigations find some unseemly dealings to say the very least, and expose a conspiracy much closer to the U.S. than Ryan is used to. Given the fact Ryan has fought most of his battles internationally, this marks new fighting territory. But how deep does this conspiracy run? Who is in the know? And will it impact Jack Ryan’s faith in the organisation that he’s been a part of since we first met him?

Of course, it’s the series finale. Things are going to be wrapped up, and storylines will be closed. Jack Ryan is gonna fight his way through the corruption in the CIA, and discover how deep it runs, but will he be successful? And if he is, what does that success look like? Will he trump the bad guys and come out on top yet again? Will he sacrifice himself for the greater good, saving the nation at the expense of his own life? Could he defy all odds and sit in the Oval Office?
