Apple has today announced four new iPhones under the iPhone 12 model: the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
Starting from $1,199 and climbing to $2,369 for the most advanced and largest model, it’s true the latest iPhones to launch from the tech giant are far from cheap, however, are stacked with the latest tech innovations.
All four models are compatible to run on 5G technology, though can work off 4G on battery-saving mode. All models also have a new Ceramic Shield front cover, which is designed to provide a new level of durability that increases drop performance by 4x.
In an effort to reach its “environmental goals”, Apple has announced it will no longer sell iPhones with a power adapter or EarPods included. These will need to be purchased separately. Instead, the device will come with a USB-C to Lightning Cable only.
A new ecosystem of tech called MagSafe means you can now charge the range of phones wirelessly and faster via a magnetic port on the back. You can also attach wallets to this zone if you like.
Other more predictable tech improvements include a better display, improved battery life, enhanced speed, and a new dual-camera system.
Tech aside, the new iPhone models trade in the brand’s signature rounded edges for a chic square design more reminiscent of the iPhone 4.

iPhone 12 Mini — from $1,199
It’s described as the smallest, thinnest, and lightest 5G smartphone in the world. The compact device has a 5.4-inch, edge-to-edge Super Retina XDR display for bright and clear viewing.
It’s water-resistant up to six metres for 30 minutes and has a new dual-camera with ultra-wide capabilities and improved tech to add 27% more light to photos and videos.
Available in five colours: Blue, green, black, white, and red, the iPhone 12 mini will be available for pre-order on Friday, November 6, and will land in stores on Friday, November 13.
iPhone 12 — from $1,349
Slightly larger than the mini, the iPhone 12 features a 6.1-inch OLED screen and the same dual-camera with improvements that include night mode on the front and rear cameras.
Available in 64gb, 128gb, and 256gb, there’s an iPhone 12 suited to just about all Apple users. Also stocked in five colours (blue, green, black, white, and red), it’s available for pre-order this Friday, October 16, and will hit stores on Friday, October 23.
iPhone 12 Pro — from $1,699
The iPhone 12 Pro models feature “a new design and edge-to-edge Super Retina XDR displays, the largest ever on iPhone”. The devices include the Apple-designed A14 Bionic chip, which is said to be the fastest chip in a smartphone for super speedy use.
iPhone 12 Pro, with a screen of 6.1-inches, comes in four stainless steel finishes: Graphite, silver, gold, and pacific blue. Pre-orders begin Friday, October 16, before you can buy it in stores on Friday, October 23.
iPhone 12 Pro Max — from $1,849
The iPhone Pro Max is the largest of all devices with a screen of 6.7-inches. Apple says “the iPhone 12 Pro Max offer the largest display ever on an iPhone and the highest resolution featuring nearly 3.5 million pixels for a remarkable, true-to-life viewing experience. These OLED displays bring HDR video content to life, reaching 1200 nits peak brightness”.
The Pro models are also said to have an incredible camera with the new Apple ProRAW, which combines Apple’s multiframe image processing and computational photography with the versatility of a RAW format. “Users can experience full creative control over colour, detail, and dynamic range natively on iPhone or with other professional photo editing apps,” Apple says.
The iPhone 12 Pro Max is on sale from November 13.
