For the second year in a row, IKEA is levelling up from its festive gingerbread house with gingerbread replicas of its most iconic furniture pieces.
Forget screws and the Allen key, because these pieces are easily assembled with icing into IKEA’s most recognisable items, including the Malm bedframe, Strandmon chair, and the Billy bookcase, of which one is sold globally every five seconds.
The Swedish furniture giant has created a series of free instruction manuals for the new Gingerbread Höme assembly kits — Cooking with Kids, Sustainable Table Decorations and Balcony and Outdoor Spaces kits. Each can be downloaded online and printed out to help holidaymakers around the world prepare and eat delicious mini versions of its core collection.
“More than ever, we know many Australians are looking for easy, beautiful, affordable and sustainable solutions heading into the festive season,” says Christine Gough, Home Furnishing Direction Leader. “So we’ve created these Christmascape kits to provide the inspiration and how-to advice to make it really easy for people to create a magical space.”
There are six pieces to cook and create; the Billy bookcase, Jokkmokk dining table and chairs, Lack side table, Malm bedframe, Rens rug, and Strandmon armchair.
Each manual includes a cookie template, whereby people at home can cut out the pieces and lay them over their rolled-out dough to be cut and baked. Then, the manual provides step-by-step instructions for assembly.
In addition to the templates, IKEA has also released cookie-cutter 3D-printing files. Those with a 3D printer can download the files to have their printer create reusable cookie cutters of the same gingerbread pieces.
