At the age of 96, Queen Elizabeth II passed away peacefully at Balmoral Castle in Scotland on September 9, 2022. She was the longest reigning monarch in British history.

Over the next week, the Queen’s body will be transported from Balmoral back to Buckingham Palace, before moving to Westminster Hall. There, the royal family and dignitaries will offer their goodbyes, before the doors open to the masses.

The official state funeral will then be held at Westminster Abbey. According to the BBC, this funeral will be held at 11:00 AM British Standard Time on September 19, 2022.

The coffin will be transported in an official procession from Westminster Hall to the abbey, and there will be two minutes’ silence to mark the occasion.

It’s expected that the Archbishop of Canterbury — the senior bishop of the Church of England — will lead the funeral service.

The funeral will of course be broadcast live in Australia, but on which channel has yet to be announced. As a state funeral, though, it’s very likely that it will air on ABC.

In fact, ABC has suspended all regular TV and radio in the wake of Her Majesty’s death, and will screen special programming to reflect on her life in the coming days.
