Calling all adrenaline junkies! If you ever wanted to take a crack at an all-expenses-paid race around the world then now’s your chance, because The Amazing Race Australia is returning in 2022, and auditions are now open. Not only do you get to experience the thrill of competing in a worldwide race, but you also might win a whopping $250,000 if you manage to make it to the finish line first.
“Be part of an incredible opportunity to travel around the world on the adventure of a lifetime with your favourite person!” a casting notice reads.
During the pandemic, the show was forced to confine the race nationwide only due to restrictions on international travel, but now with borders opening back up, the 2022 season is expected to hit global destinations. To be in the running, applicants must be in teams of two and need to be above the age of 18 and fully vaccinated.
“The show will have strict COVID protocols in place when filming the show,” a statement from Channel 10 read. And if you do manage to make it on the show, make sure your calendar is cleared from the beginning of February 2022 as filming will take place for four to seven weeks, depending on how far you manage to go.
“We really want to make The Amazing Race again, but we won’t film it in Australia again, we’ve done that,” said Executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer of ViacomCBS ANZ Beverley McGarvey. “It is our strong ambition to film it outside Australia next year and our feeling is we will be able to do it.”
NRL star Beau Ryan will most likely return to host the 2022 season, having already done a stellar job at fronting the show for the past two instalments. The Amazing Race Australia first hit Aussie TV screens back in 2010 and returned with a fresh season the following year. After a three-year hiatus, the show was reintroduced in 2014 and then didn’t appear on television again until Beau took over as host in 2019.
