Ah Monday: It’s a fresh week, a fresh start, and a fresh opportunity to continue all of your incredibly trash habits. However, before you can get back to ignoring your mother’s cryptic texts and your feeble body’s gluten intolerance, it’s time to learn what’s happening in our solar system. So, without any further critiques of your brave life choices, here are this today’s biggest headlines.
Free Degrees Are Coming to Victoria and Queensland
While the NSW Government’s struggling with its nurses going on strike, the Victoria Government is crushing the game. This is because they’re giving over 10,000 future nurses and midwives $0.00 undergraduate degrees. Moreover, they’re also providing scholarships for thousands of students that finish doing certain postgraduate studies.
“If you’re in Year 12 and you’ve been thinking about studying nursing or midwifery – go for it. We’ve got your HECS fees covered,” exclaimed Victoria’s Premier, Daniel Andrews. He also noted, “Every health system in the country is under enormous pressure due to the pandemic. The best thing we can do to support our hardworking staff is give them more support on the ground.”
Furthermore, Victoria isn’t the only state announcing some chef’s-kiss-worthy free education. “BREAKING,” wrote Queensland Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk, on Facebook. “Free TAFE and apprenticeships for Queenslanders under 25 will be extended until 30 June, 2023.”
Palaszczuk then went on to explain, “This will give young people access to 26 free TAFE programs and 139 free apprenticeship programs.”
NSW’s Train Strikes Are Happening Today
In more difficult news for the NSW Government, the train strike saga has continued. “Services may be less frequent and trips may take longer than usual due to industrial action,” wrote the T2 Sydney Trains Twitter account. “Please allow extra travel time, listen to announcements, check information screens and transport apps for up-to-date service info.” The T2 area covers the Inner West and Leppington Line.
Additionally, both the Airport & South Line Twitter page and the Bankstown Line Twitter page posted this exact same warning.
But that’s not all. “Trains are not running between Lidcombe and Olympic Park due to industrial action,” tweeted out T7 Sydney Trains. “Please use local bus route 401 to travel between Lidcombe and Olympic Park or route 425 to travel between Strathfield and Olympic Park.”

NASA’s Going to The Moon (Again)
According to The New York Times, NASA has a program called Artemis that’s launching a new moon rocket at around 8:30 AM, Eastern time, on August 29. This vehicle is uncrewed and is being assessed whether or not it’s safe for people. NASA is hoping to use such a spacecraft to get humans back on the moon.
But why does NASA want to go to the moon a second time? After all, they’ve already ticked this task off their galactic bucket list. Well, NASA believes that putting people on the moon is vital for a better future. “It’s a future where NASA will land the first woman and the first person of colour on the moon,” argued NASA administrator, Bill Nelson, in a press conference.“And on these increasingly complex missions, astronauts will live and work in deep space and will develop the science and technology to send the first humans to Mars.”
John Farnham’s on the Mend
As previously reported by The Latch, John Farnham has been recovering from mouth cancer surgery. Fortunately though, his family has provided the public with some good news. In a statement obtained by TV Tonight, they wrote, “John remains in a stable condition in ICU following the removal of a cancerous tumour in his mouth on Tuesday. He is awake and responding well to the care he’s receiving.”
This statement additionally outlined, “The Farnham family want to acknowledge and thank everyone for their ongoing messages and well wishes that have been shared throughout the last week. It really lifts our spirits knowing that everyone is thinking of John.”
