It’s funny how cravings work. My breakfast has barely touched the sides and yet the news Five Guys is coming to Australia has sparked a severe craving for burgers, and not just any old burger, but a Five Guys cheeseburger with a shake. And a hotdog.
Five Guys has today announced its first-ever Australian location, and it’s great news for Sydneysiders. The US burger chain will launch first in Penrith in 2021.
Seagrass Boutique Hospitality Group officially signed a deal with the Panthers Group to open the first Five Guys venue in the Western Sydney suburb, and it’ll be in good company, with a Krispy Kreme across the road and the Panthers League Club next door.
A KFC and a McDonalds will also be closeby, creating something of a fast-food hub just off Mulgoa road, which sees some 40,000 cars a day. That’s a lot of cheeseburgers.
Initially, Five Guys had planned to open in the Sydney CBD, but due to the events of 2020, the strategy shifted and a more suburban approach was landed on for the first store opening.
Several other sites are also said to be under consideration, with Seagrass citing the CBD, as well as Circular Quay, Darling Harbour and Broadway.
While we’re yet to find out exactly when the first Five Guys will open in Sydney, we’re told we can expect a feed in mid-2021.
As for the rest of Australia, word is an expansion to Melbourne and Brisbane could be next, followed by Australia-wide locations and a jump over the ditch to New Zealand. A previous press release revealed 20 locations could open around the country.
Finally, something delicious to look forward to.
