You know them, you love them.
Australian singers and icons Casey Donovan and Vanessa Amorosi are the first two artists who will compete to represent Australia in next year’s Eurovision competition.
The Eurovision: Australia Decides special will take place on the Gold Coast next February, and will see “Absolutely Everybody” singer Vanessa Amorosi, as well as Australian Idol season two winner Casey Donovan go head-to-head, hoping to represent Australia in its sixth year in the competition.
The other 8 artists vying to represent Australia at Eurovision next year are Indigenous artist Mitch Tambo, alternative singer-songwriter iOTA, pop star Montaigne, folk musician Didirri, The Voice winner Diana Rouvas, Australia’s Got Talent winner Jack Vidgen, Darwin singer-songwriter Jordan-Ravi and multimedia artist Jaguar Jonze.
The winner will be following in the footsteps of 2019’s Kate Miller-Heidke, as well as Dami Im, Guy Sebastian, Isaiah Firebrace and Jessica Mauboy, hoping to take out Eurovision’s top spot.
So far, Dami Im’s 2016 second place score is the closest we’ve come to a win, followed by Guy’s fifth placement in 2015. Both gals sound excited to take on the opportunity.
“I am a proud Aussie and to have the opportunity to sing one of my songs on a huge international stage representing Australia would be unforgettable,” Amorosi said in a statement. Donovan, meanwhile, said she “can’t wait to share the stage with some of Australia’s most talented singers.”
The SBS Eurovision: Australia Decides event will screen in February and the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest will take place in the Netherlands.
