The former home of well-known Melbourne restaurant Press Club has finally got a new tenant. Known as the ‘Curry Queen’, executive chef Manpreet Sekhon has quietly launched her third restaurant, Elchi, in Melbourne’s CBD.

Sekhon is also behind restaurants Eastern Spice, and Masti Fitzroy. ‘Elchi’ means ambassador, or talented, and you can expect dishes to exude these values. Get your hands on the 24-carat gold chicken mussalam, a tender chicken leg covered in garam masala and cashew paste which is then decorated with delicate gold leaf.
Manpreet was born in the Punjab region of northern India, and has been cooking professionally for more than 20 years, working alongside chefs such as Jiggs Kalra, and Sanjeev Kapoor. These days Manpreet calls Geelong home.
Elchi is a relaxed, sophisticated setting, with 60 seats awaiting your arrival. Expect to see curved leather booths, and gold ceiling lights. Elchi will feature a rotating seasonal menu that will showcase cuisine from several regions of India and promote Manpreet’s proud heritage.
