Dyson’s Latest Vacuum Was Designed Specifically For Your Home’s Bigger Spaces

Dyson Gen5 Outsize

Dyson has today launched its latest cordless vacuum, a spin-off of its Gen5 Detect, which it released in October last year. The Gen5 Outsize has been optimised for deep cleaning in larger homes.

Building on the intelligence, power, and performance of the Dyson Gen5 Detect, the Dyson Gen5 Outsize has been re-engineered to include a 150% larger bin, 25% wider cleaner head, and swappable battery technology to support longer cleans with up to 70 minutes run time.

It’s powered by the new fifth-generation Hyperdymium motor that’s smaller, faster, and more powerful than its predecessor. It delivers 250 air watts of suction that works to remove both large debris and microscopic dust.

“The best filter cannot provide clean air if there is an opportunity for dirty air to leak out of the machine, so our engineers worked hard to ensure that all our Dyson vacuums have whole-machine filtration,” Charlie Park, Dyson’s vice president of floorcare, said at the time of the Gen5 Detect’s launch.

“In our Gen5 outsize vacuum, we went a step further with HEPA filtration to ensure that even microscopic particles as small as 0.1 microns remain trapped in the machine.”

It’s also fitted with a new user interface on its head that’ll show you in real-time when a surface is clean. A piezo sensor uses acoustic sensing to count and categorise particle sizes, and bars on the LCD screen now rise and fall according to the volume of particles being removed. This will tell you when you need to move on or spend more time cleaning a surface.

The vacuum will also have a built-in dusting and crevice tool so you can thoroughly clean any room corner. The device transforms into a handheld and also has a wand inside it that you can use for dusting and cleaning crevices.

Dyson’s Gen5 Detect, unveiled last year, was its most powerful — and most expensive — vacuum model. As compared to other models, it has more suction power, brighter lasers, and a more compact format.

The vacuum also has a fully-sealed (you can unscrew it for cleaning, though) HEPA filtration system, engineered to capture 99.99% of particles like diesel soot, down to 0.1 microns. Engineers built the motor with a shorter shaft and combined multiple parts into one, allowing for a more compact format.

The Dyson Gen5 Outsize is available from July 6, 2023 online or at Dyson Demo stores. It costs $1,649. The Gen5 Detect is $1,499.
