If you’re still recovering from Eric Bana playing “Dirty John” a.k.a Dr John Meehan in the first season of Dirty John, then you’re not alone.
The crime series, based on real events, was a huge hit in 2018 and chronicled the life of Debra Newell (Connie Britton) after she meets the charismatic, handsome and charming Meehan. Sweeping her off her feet in a whirlwind romance, the pair quickly marry, however, her daughters feel like something is not right and set out to prove their new step-dad is a conman.
Now, the anthology crime series is back for a second season and this time it’s based on what Oprah Winfrey called one of “America’s messiest divorces” — and that was before it ended in a double homicide.
Set in the 60s and spanning two decades, Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story, follows the titular character, Betty Broderick (Amanda Peet) and her wild marriage to Dan, played by Mr Robot’s Christian Slater.
In the peak of their marriage, Betty was the perfect wife and mother, while Dan was a charming medical and law school superstar in San Diego and the pair had a picture-perfect marriage.
After Dan hires a new legal assistant, Linda Kolkena (Legion’s Rachel Keller), things begin to unravel, and Betty accuses her husband of having an affair.
The series will chronicle their bitter divorce and custody battle (with Dan even getting Betty admitted) and Betty’s subsequent irrational and violent behaviours — which result in her purchasing a gun.
There’s no official date for when it will be released here in Australia, but as the first season is currently streaming on Netflix, we’re assuming that it will pick the second season up too.
And fingers crossed, will release the whole thing all at once.
