Gold Medal Footwork — Why Nova Peris Is Ready to Take on ‘Dancing With the Stars’

The 2024 Dancing With the Stars contestant Nova Peris

Dancing With the Stars Australia has featured some of the greatest journeys of all time. In 2022, it was a joy watching Deal or No Deal’s Grant Denyer go from a novice to mastering the pirouette. Likewise, Phil Burton freestyled his heart away in last year’s finale, winning the series in a historic twist that nobody saw coming. We therefore can’t wait to learn how this year’s contestants do, and we’re particularly keen to see Nova Peris in action.

On Dancing With the Stars, Australian celebrities team up with professional dancers to learn how to dance in a ballroom-based competition. Each week, these celebs perform choreographed routines in front of a panel of experts and a live studio audience. Scores from the judges, along with viewer votes, determine who advances and who goes home. The winner of Dancing With the Stars receives the dazzling Mirror Ball trophy. They also get to select a charity to which this series will donate $50,000 to.

We believe that Nova will excel in this iconic format. Let’s swing into the reasons why.

Who Is Dancing With the Stars Australia’s Nova Peris?

Nova Peris is a proud descendant of the Gija people of the East Kimberley, the Yawuru people of the West Kimberley, and the Iwatja people of West Arnhem Land in the Muran Clan. Throughout multiple careers, she has been a trailblazer for First Nations women everywhere.

In the 1996 Olympic Games, Nova was the first Aboriginal person ever to win an Olympic gold medal, and she did so as a member of the Hockeyroos. Nova also competed in the 1998 Commonwealth Games and the 2000 Olympic Games as a sprinter.

In 2013, Nova pivoted into politics, becoming Australia’s first Aboriginal woman elected into our federal parliament. Since 2020, she’s been an Ambassador for the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation.

When Nova isn’t working, she enjoys spending time with her family. Nova has three adult children, Jessica, Destiny, and Jack, and a grandchild named Isaac Peris-Coe, aged ten.

Can Nova Peris Win Dancing With the Stars Australia 2024?

In the lead-up to Dancing With the Stars Australia 2024, Nova Peris has been training really hard. She hopes that this work might give her an edge in this year’s competition.
